Dressing in costume and getting free candy? Halloween was a win-win in my book growing up, and still is today. Many people keep a bowl of candy by the door during Halloween for the many trick-or-treaters. In this weeks Get Geekish Podcast Derek and I reminisce about some of the costumes we wore as children. We even have photos to share with you. Join us on this trip down memory lane of vintage Halloween costumes.
Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. I mean, I’ve always been all-in for any excuse to get dressed up. I thumbed through some old photo albums and found some of my childhood costumes to share with you. I feel like I lucked out as my mom’s sewing skills allowed me to have some much better costumes that many of the face cutting plastic masks so many 80s kids had to wear.
Some of Beano’s Childhood Vintage Halloween Costumes
Somewhere in my very young days I was this orange-haired Halloween clown. A little bit adorable, a little it creepy. (What is that orange thing I am holding?!)
Costume date: 1982-ish
Funshine Bear was one of my all-time favorites. My sis was also a Care Bear and we made quite the fuzzy duo for trick-or-treating.
Costume date: 1984-ish
I had the power! I loved He-Man so of course I had to dress up as the muscle-bound hero. Don’t you dig the fuzzy boots?
Costume Date: 1985-ish
This Pink Panther get up, made by my mom was a big hit. Planning ahead for cold nights of trick-or-treating were not a problem when you were covered from head to toe in pink fur.
Costume Date: 1986-ish
Sufferin Succotash, I almost forgot about this one! Sylvester the Cat was another very fun, and very warm costume created by my mother.
Costume Date: 1987-ish
This I what you get when you say, “Mom, I want to be the robot from Mazinger Z mixed with the Voltron Vehicle Force robot.” If you know what either of those are, it’s pretty spot on. (P.S. let’s be friends.)
Costume Date: 1988-ish
Why I wanted to be a Walrus Fisherman, I will never know. but we made it happen.
Costume Date: 1990-ish
Danny DeVito’s Penguin from Batman Returns was the inspiration for this one. I still have a sore memory as one of my ‘friends’ pulled of my prosthetic nose before we got to our first trick-or-treat stop. (I may forgive you someday Nick M, but not yet.)
Costume Date: 1992
Derek didn’t have too many photos of his childhood costumes but he did fin this doozy of a cowboy costumes he wore one year. Yeehaw!
