Call of Duty: WWII Beta First Impressions

img-4898The game doesn’t come out until November but the private beta is up and running if you pre-ordered the game, giving you a little taste of what to expect in the latest CoD. I decided to pre-order so I can partake in the beta. Here are my thoughts.
My first few impressions after playing 3 matches went something like this: “Yay! It feels like old CoD!” “What the heck was that crap!?” “Oh yay…spawn camped.. it feels like CoD.”

The first thought was actual excitement. I am so happy that the franchise decided to go back “boots on the ground” game play and get rid of boosters and double jumps. Leave that for ‘Destiny‘ or ‘Titanfall‘. This was long over due and I hope it brings life back into, no offense, a stale franchise. I know that CoD is one of the most popular FPS out there, but lets be honest, the last installment was not that great.

Second reaction was honestly that, “what the heck was that crap?” I may have said a different set of words but still, there was a couple of moments that I am not sure how I lost the showdown when I would see the enemy first. I know I haven’t really played CoD in a while, but I am not that bad. There were a few instances where I had the upper hand and it felt as if I was shooting at nothing. The hit boxes seemed a little off for me, but not for the enemy. I understand little things like this happen in every game and my reaction will forever be the same. Side note, the guns seemed a little off balance, which could cause this as well so hopefully they balance those out.

Last reaction, spawn camping. Its become a staple in the Cod franchise unfortunately and while I can say it does happen in this, it doesn’t feel as bad as past installments. I played domination because that is usually where the spawn camping is the worst. It happened a little, which is frustrating, but I can see it getting exploited ifSledgehammer Gamesdoesn’t make little tweaks.

They have done good as well. They have added a few things like a player social area much like the Tower in ‘Destiny’. This is a place where you can get missions and tweak little things on your character. While I didn’t mess around too much in this part, I can see it being a good addition. They also made classes a little bit different with getting recruited into a division, so that is a neat little thing as well. The sound is great with just the little bit of music you can hear and the sounds of the battle itself.

After all, it is a beta, so little quirks are to be expected, but first impressions mean a lot. The multiplayer seems like it could be fun, and a welcome back to what made CoD one of the great FPS franchises.

I am also excited for the story because it seems likes its going to tell a great one, and of course, Nazi Zombies are making a return.

What are your thoughts on the latest installment?
