‘Basic’ Training – Pumpkin Spice Everything

Fall is upon us, and that means a few things: Leaves are changing, school is back in session, Halloween is coming, and pumpkin flavor gets put in EVERYTHING. After seeing an entire aisle at a local department store dedicated nothing but pumpkin/pumpkin spice, we decided to do a little taste testing.

Why did we call it “Basic Training?” Well, the top definition of basic on Urban dictionary is;

“Only interested in things mainstream, popular, and trending
Omg BAE is so basic. all she wants to do is drink pumpkin spice lattes and play candy crush.”You can read all about the delicious irony of commercializing a food that succeeded specifically because it seemed to represent an alternative to a life of commerce from Time.

According to Wikipedia, the Pumpkin Spice Latte has only been around since 2003. It’s hard to believe that one lowly Starbucks beverage helped spawn a cultural movement of flavoring everything (both edible and inedible) with pumpkin.
