Colorado Springs Comic Con 2018 Recap, Photos, and Video

Colorado Springs Comic Con 2018 on Sunday was our first slice of what this con has to offer. Since Fort Collins Comic Con and Colorado Springs Comic Con are always on the same weekend, we had never attended Colorado Springs Comic Con before this year. Enjoy the photos and video we took.

[We’ll be adding a few more photos and hopefully a video in the coming days, stay tuned…]

Driving down on a Sunday, we made record time getting to the Springs. The con was easy to find and we found parking quickly. Speaking of parking, geeks rule (I’ll explain why a bit later). The first thing we noticed was a long line, which we joined.  A volunteer from the con shouted instructions and gathered people with upcoming photo ops and shuffled them to the front of the line.  We pondered purchasing an early photo op for next year.

Once inside, we saw tons of vendors.  They were packed in pretty tight, but they had a lot of cool stuff to look at. Lots of my favorite artists were there like Jason Meents whose art we won later on in the con. (Our daughter’s room has a near wall-full of Meents’ prints.)

After wandering around for a bit, we made our way downstairs to where the celebrities and guests were. We chatted with some of the wonderful cosplayers: Bera Cuda Cosplay and Hide my Error Cosplay and waved at Fruitcake who seemed super nice. We left the con and ate lunch in the mall.  It was nice to have that option since the area with the food trucks didn’t have any shade.

From that, we waited through security to get back into the con. Once we had been in the security line for about 10 minutes, my daughter said she needed to use the bathroom. Since I didn’t want to get out of the security line after we were half way through it, I made my daughter wait another 10 minutes until got into the con. I thought they must have multiple restrooms in the con area, but was wrong. We had to walk all the way through the downstairs area, upstairs and in a back corner where the only 3 stalls we could find in the con area were located.  In typical six year old fashion, we did all that and when we finally made it into the stall, she decided she didn’t have to go after all (insert parental sigh and head shake here). If you happened to need a bathroom or were with small children who don’t always have the best timing, the lack of restrooms was a problem.

After that fun (sarcasm) adventure, we made our way to the costume contests.  For the kid portion, they were adorable as always.  The host was interactive and communicated with kids well.  He got some pretty awesome eye rolls when prompting them to talk or sing songs which always adds to the cuteness.  There were some pretty epic kids costumes like a Dalek from Doctor Who and a life sized R2D2 from Star Wars. While the judges were picking winners, the host asked trivia questions and passed out prizes.  He had a huge stack of artwork and fun prizes from other Con vendors.  It was a good way to pass the time waiting and the host certainly knew his fandoms.

After the kids, the adults took the stage. The costumes throughout all the categories were seriously impressive. I didn’t envy the tough job the judges had in deciding the winners.  The winners got a ticket to next years con and a goody bag.

The day flew buy so fast I found myself wishing it wasn’t over so soon. Oh, I nearly forgot the story I promised earlier.  When we got back to the car, we noticed we left our window rolled down all day.  Nothing had been touched. Not a single item taken, or disturbed. We had a great time taking videos and pictures that we hope you will enjoy too.
