Happy 25th Anniversary Kirby

A pretty good drawing from our very own Bibbles
Can you believe that the adorable little pink blob we all know and love is celebrating his 25th anniversary today? Congrats little guy!
On this day(August 1st) back in 1992, a little pink blob entered our homes and hearts! Kirby made his North American debut on the Gameboy with “Kirby’s Dream Land”. He originally launched in Japan 4 months earlier where he was already a hit and little did we know that he would be a great little character that has a ton of other games and is even a staple in “Smash Bros”.

I remember playing the heck out of this game. I had a few different games for my Gameboy, but this was one of the top 3 that I would constantly play. It is a short game by today’s standards, but that doesn’t make it any less fun. You play as Kirby, in pursuit of King Dedede, who has stolen all the food from dream land. You go through the levels, fighting low level baddies by using your vacuum mouth to suck them up and steal their power. At the end of the level is the tradition boss fight where you need to use your skills to defeat. Honestly, the very first boss fight still makes me feel bad. You fight a stationary giant tree that drops apples on you. Once you defeat him, he sheds a little tear and gets a sad face.

If you want to relive any adventures of Kirby, and you have a 3DS or a WiiU, there is a sale on some of his featured games. Click HERE to check it out.

If you want to learn a bit about Kirby, lets check out what Wikipedia has to say;
“Kirby’s Dream Land was developed by Masahiro Sakurai of HAL Laboratory. Kirby initially was a dummy character that the developers used until they could define a more sophisticated image. However the designers grew to like Kirby so much that they decided to keep him instead of using a more advanced character. He was originally named Popopo, and Kirby’s Dream Land was titled Twinkle Popo. Eventually, he was renamed Kirby and the game was renamed Hoshi no Kirby (Kirby of the Stars). During the development of what was then referred to as Twinkle Popopo, Popopo/Kirby’s color had not been decided upon. Masahiro Sakuraiwanted him to be pink, while Shigeru Miyamoto felt that he should be yellow. Eventually, Nintendo decided to make him pink. Although pink is still Kirby’s main color, later games have used a yellow Kirby to represent the second player in multiplayer. When Kirby of the Stars was first released in Japan, it featured Kirby as being pink. However, Nintendo of America designed the North American box art and advertisements with a white Kirby based on the game’s grey-scale visuals.”
