Today marks the one year anniversary of Pokemon GO! A lot of people just thought it was a fad, but look at it now. Still going strong and Niantic is celebrating their one year with an anniversary event.

Starting today and going through July 24th, you can get some deals on items in the store and they are adding a collectible Pikachu to the mix that you can catch. This special Pikachu will be wearing Ash Ketchum’s hat and will be popping up randomly like the holiday Pikachu.

Niantic has also planned events in the real world that would be awesome to go to, but alas, we can’t make them. Maybe you can if they are happening in your neck of the woods.

Pokemon Go is still going strong after one year and I am looking forward to future updates and improvements.

The biggest improvement recently was to the gyms. While I love the improved gym looks and feel, I wish that they had changed the actual app a bit more. I know a lot of people were hoping for a turn base fighting mechanic like the classic games. I would love to see that but I can see that bogging things down and making the gym battles longer than they need to be. I know I am not alone in wishing that they would add some sort of pokemon trading in the app. How awesome would that be?

Another huge improvement that I know almost every player would love to see is different pokemon spawning. I love the game, don’t get me wrong, but I do get tired of seeing the same 5 pokemon popping up everywhere I go. I wish that more water pokemon would pop up around water and so on and so forth. It would get more people involved and bring back some people that got bored.

Here is hoping that Niantic keeps listening to the fans and this game keeps going! Happy birthday Pokemon Go!
