Next was the “Witch’s Revenge, “ made with habanero pepper and habanero sugar. This witch definitely had her revenge in the form of a burning mouth.
Then we braved “Glowing Skull,” a mix of ghost pepper and orange zest. This one was reminiscent of a tootsie roll that rolled out some serious heat after lulling you into a false sense of chocolaty security.
After that, we consumed the “Screeching Owl, “ which mixed scorpion pepper and caramel sugar. This white chocolate delight was buttery, melty, and delightful. Alas, like a ghost, it snuck up on us and the pepper part was a sharp shock of heat.
Last on the spicy scale was the “Graveyard Bones,” that combined reaper peppers with rice crispies. This chocolate had a nice crunchy start (Crunch Bar-ish), but then ended with a body heat-raising eruption of spice.
We ended our chocolate tasting with a “Raspberry Sugar Square.” This was my favorite one of the bunch since spicy isn’t my favorite. The chocolate was smooth, had a natural raspberry flavor, and was a welcome rest to the spice. Since my mouth was still on fire from the rest of the chocolate, this one still tasted spicy even though it wasn’t.
I learned a lot from this taste test: Sinister Treats does good work, sugar and milk mixed together helps put out a burning mouth, and If you like spicy, you will LOVE this chocolate. It doesn’t sacrifice taste just to add spice. This is quality chocolate with great taste that has a spicy aftertaste. I would love for Sinister Treats to make some non-spicy versions of these chocolates too.
